DIY professional curtains

I think I mentioned a while ago that I have been wanting to try my hand at sewing.  I found some great tutorials from other bloggers and decided that I could handle making my own lined curtains.  Just in case they didn’t turn out I figured my first attempt should be some where in the house not as important so the bathroom shower seemed like a good place to start.

(Incase you notice the white brackets, I plan to paint them eventually)

Thanks to the great tutorials, they turned out awesome!  So awesome I will be making more curtains for the rest of the house.  I used this bloggers tutorial for the overall curtains. http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2012/06/tutorial-how-to-sew-lined-back-tab-curtains-drapes-curtain-panels-whatever/

Except, I did not do tabs to hang the curtains.  I went to the fabric store and bought curtain tape you sew on the back and can be used do pleats but I just used it to put the curtain pins in that hang on the rings.

I used this bloggers tutorial for doing a blind hem on the bottom. (Not pictured since the whole idea of a blind hem is you can’t see the hem at the bottom of the curtain panel.)

She also gave a great tutorial on doing pinch pleats with the tape I was talking about.

Gates’ finished big boy room

We have lived in our hour for almost 2 years and I have finally done something in Gates’ room.  You might remember that for the twins nursery I did board and batten on the walls.  Their bedroom has a connecting bathroom to Gates’ room making them Jack’ n Jill bedrooms so I wanted them to have some cohesion.  So I decided to tackle the board and batten project again in Gates’ room.  I am loving the new trend of grass cloth wallpaper coming back in style so I also tackled hanging wallpaper by my self.   I found a great light at Ikea to replace the builder standard light that was in this room.  I DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL!  This is where Chris comes in.

The comforter is from West Elm and the sheets I already had from my days of college in the dorm.  I made the dust ruffle out of burlap.

Gum ball machine was a steal at Goodwill.  Chris thinks I am torturing Gates by having this in his room and not letting him eat the gum balls.  Chris put it into context for me by saying “what if there was cookie dough in the refrigerator and every time you went in the refrigerator you just had to look at it and could never eat it?”  When you put it like that, yes, I am the meanest mom ever.

I am thinking I need some kind of window treatments but don’t know what I would do and also want  a big art of some kind on the bare wall.

Why so messy?!

photo

Jack and Teddy are the messiest eaters!  Every meal ends up ALL over the place.  Luckily we have a dog that gets all the food on the floor.  Most meals are eaten with no clothes on because bibs can’t even stand up to their mess.

A Birthday Blast

Gates was invited to a birthday party for his neighbor friend.  Gates loves birthdays!

Even Jack and Teddy got to join in on the celebration.

There was a water balloon toss but no one could catch them with out them popping.  The last balloon was given to the birthday boy and he got to throw it at who ever he wanted.

All the kids running from the balloon was hilarious!

Trying to stay cool

I took the boys for the first time this summer to the squirt park by our house.  I thought by now we would of done this multiple times this summer but sadly this has been the first time.  The boys loved it so I am going to try and go again at least one more time before they close.

Officially walking

Jack started walking at 14 months old and Teddy finally started walking a couple weeks ago at 16 months.  Gates was an early walker so this was concerning for us but they are both finally walking.  Teddy being at Camp Meeting is what finally got him off of his knees.  Unfortunately, it has gotten even harder to get pictures of every one all together.
