This baby pool was wonderful! I highly recommend it for families with small kids at the beach.  It packed up small and wasn’t to big when it came to filling it with water.DSC_0405DSC_0421

Everyone got really tired playing at the beach.  This was the point when we decided to call it a day.

Pallet Accent Wall

For the Jack and Jill bathroom between the twins and Gates’ room I decided that I would dress it up with an accent wall using wood from old pallets.  I love how it turned out!

How I did it:

First, I had to find some pallets.  This ended up being pretty easy thanks to my Mrs. Carroll’s husband who brought me 5 pallets he had at his work that he didn’t want.  He reassured me that these are not treated pallets so they should be safe.  The pallets looked like crap but that didn’t matter because in a way the pallets that were falling a part made it easier to get the wood off.  Braking the pallets down and getting the wood off was the hardest part of the project.  Luckily, I had my amazing friend Whitney help me get started.  It took me a couple days of spending an hour here and there during nap time to get all the boards off.  Then I got all the left over nails out and sanding them a little to clean them up.  The rest of the project took me maybe an hour to nail the boards to the wall.  I used the compressor and nail gun for hanging the boards.  The spacing between the boards isn’t perfect but I didn’t care because imperfect was the look I was going for.  I bought new lights to tie it all together that Chris surprised me by hanging them for me. I wish I had painted the walls a soft grey before I did the accent wall but maybe some day I will get around to that.  I also need a shower curtain and something for the walls.

I got the lights from The Home Depot.  They were cheap out door lights that work perfect. http://www.homedepot.com/Lighting-Fans-Outdoor-Lighting-Outdoor-Wall-Lighting-Outdoor-Wall-Mount/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbvni/R-202022733/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&superSkuId=202576733

Plantation Shutters

This might be really boring to some but getting plantation shutters was like Christmas morning for me, I was so excited.  So here is the scoop on how I got this expensive luxury that seemed to expensive for us.  I new when we moved into the house over a year ago that I wanted plantation shutters.  We had some one come out and give us a quote and I quickly realized that $1, 000 a window was going to be an expensive window treatment.  So, we put it off and left the windows with nothing.  Our neighbors thought we were weird because you could just see into our house but that didn’t bother me.  Finally, we justified getting them when I realized that we could hang them our selves and save some money!  Yes, do it our self.  Chris was very skeptic but I had complete faith in our DIY skills and ordered them online from http://www.shadesshuttersblinds.com/.  We got them for almost half the price it would of cost to pay some one to come out and install them for us.  Installing was pretty easy and they look amazing and the quality is great.  I get giddy just thinking about them.  Who knew window treatments could bring such joy.

This is them from the inside of our office.  Now I just need to do something with rest of the office and the dining room because they are still pretty bare and boring.office

Beach

Sorry I have been gone for so long!  I have lots to blog about though because of it.  I was busy with a couple of projects around the house, the usual playing with the boys and we went to the beach!  I took a lot of pictures at the beach, so I’m not going to overwhelm any one and do a couple post with beach pictures.

We went through Auburn on our way down and had lunch at my favorite, Momma Goldberg’s!  We also practiced our “WAR EAGLE!”

Gates was super excited about getting to the beach and all the sand.

I saved the best for last.  Chris’s mom wanted him to take a “candid'” shot but unfortunately Chris is not very discrete and every one knew what he was doing and this is what he got. Everyone being ridiculous.
