Lego Star Wars Birthday

Gates has been talking about a Star Wars birthday ever since we celebrated his brothers birthdays 6 months ago.  I aim to please so we had a Star Wars birthday!  I intended to take more pictures but once the party started it got a little crazy so this is it.

We celebrated in the garage again just because it always seems to be the best place to accommodate a bunch of kids and where all the action is.

The hit of the party was the light sabers we made from these light up wands my friend originally found at Mardi Gras.  The kids all loved them!

Gates is 4!

I can’t believe this crazy little boy is 4!  Gates has been anticipating this birthday for the past 6 months and I don’t think it disappointed him at all.  Star Wars birthday party details to come soon.

“Gates what do you want to be when you grow up?” Mommy

“I want to be a daddy, a worker, a fireman, a policeman, a super hero and a helicopter police man.” Gates

“Gates you can not go to the car with out mommy!  Do you understand me!?” Mommy (He had gone out of a restaurant and gotten in the car with out me)

“Yes ma’am.  Sometimes a guys gotta do, what a guys gotta do.” Gates ( He heard this said on a Veggie Tales movie we watch all the time)

“What’s your favorite thing to eat?” Mommy

“Steak, broccoli, and water.”  Gates

Obsessed with anything and everything Star Wars.  He named his pet fish he got for his birthday General Grievous.  Anything that remotely resembles a light saber he pretends is a light saber.

Teachers say he talks to much, which he does! He will tell strangers his life story if they stop to listen to him.

I got him an ironman suit I found at Goodwill.  He tried it on and looked in the mirror and said under his breath “awesome.”

He enjoys singing with his daddy “Mommas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.”

His first bible verse he memorized was 1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.”

Still remembers his great grandmother Mimi who died 2 years ago.  “Mimi would let me eat cookies all day and gave me rides in her wheel chair.” Gates

Phase one of the custom media center

We have been wanting to do this project since we moved in almost 3 years ago.  This is just phase one of the project.  Phase two will consist of book cases going around the TV with lights at the top.   We are so burnt out from all the projects we have had going on that we are not going to start phase two for a while.  I love how they turned out.  Incase anyone is interested in how we got this far, here is a rundown.  We bought the cabinets from Costco.com.  The cabinets were a nice white but all of our trim is an off white color so we painted the cabinets to match since we are going for a built-in look.  We made the counter top out of oak boards glued onto an MDF board.  I did a coat of Jacobean stain, same color as our floors and then did I think around 5 coats of poly.   We pulled off the base molding where we wanted the cabinet to go and then ripped it to a smaller size to be re-used on the base of the cabinet.   We put the cabinets where we wanted them, screwed them into the wall.  Put the counter top on top, screwed it into placed.  We put some spacers on the toe kick to bring out the molding (re-used from the old molding on the wall)  on the bottom and make it flush with the doors.  We put some trim on the ends of the cabinet to make them look the same as the door.  New knobs and we were done!  For now.
